Correctional Officer Wanted for the Transport Department

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and seeking more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transportation.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising incarcerated individuals. These are the clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between detention centers and prisons, to court hearings, hospitals, and more. TA also transports incarcerated individuals for agencies such as the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatric services. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer within TA, you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, each responsible for different roles in the execution of client transports. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. You will conduct searches, apply restraints, and supervise the client during transport.

TA's assignments are varied, which means your working hours can change from day to day. Evening work may be required. The scheduled times are frame times, usually 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Our working hours are determined by the scope and conditions of the assignments. Frame time means that the employer can change the start and end times. Changes will be communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift can be between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM (12 hours) or 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (7 hours). Working hours are reviewed every three months. If you work more than expected, you will receive overtime compensation. If you work less, you will still receive your normal salary.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role demands high personal suitability. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in the capacity for development and change. You need to have good physical fitness to handle a sedentary job and to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • A completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

It is advantageous if you have:
